Jurassic World Rebirth Reboots Franchise with Heart-Pounding Mission

Universal Pictures has released the final trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth, the upcoming fourth Jurassic World film. Fans will have to wait until July 2025 for the movie to hit theaters, but the long-awaited trailer will tide them over until then. Jurassic World Rebirth will be hitting theaters on July 2, 2025. The release is scheduled just in time to take over the box office over the Fourth of July weekend. It will be setting a new beginning for the series, but it will still be referencing the origins of the franchise. It will also be returning to the original site of Jurassic Park in this new film. Jurassic World Rebirth will be set on a journey of big business, shadowy scientific research, and terror from both dinosaurs and man.

Jurassic World Rebirth is the fourth film in the Jurassic World series, and the seventh film in the entire Jurassic Park franchise. The series started in 1993 with Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park. This time around, the film is being directed by Gareth Edwards, who is coming off of his 2014 Godzilla film. David Koepp is on board for the screenplay, but this will not be his first foray into the franchise. He previously wrote the screenplay for Jurassic Park, as well as the sequel, The Lost World, in 1997.

The synopsis provided by the film states that this new adventure takes place five years after Jurassic World Dominion. It is explained that the dinosaurs are facing harsh environments, and their natural prehistoric conditions are becoming more scarce. A limited population is slowly beginning to confine itself to the two limited equatorial areas that support their ancient climates. In one of these two areas, which is a tropical biosphere, lies the largest known dinosaur in terms of land, sea, and sky. These specific dinosaurs contain the genetic material needed for an incredible, potentially lifesaving drug.

Scarlett Johansson has been cast as the lead in this newest film as Zora Bennett, a specialist in covert operations. She has been assigned to lead a team on a secret mission to extract the genetic material that the dinosaurs in this biosphere contain. Johansson and the team of specialists find their mission beginning to crisscross with a family of boaters on a vacation trip, which is disrupted after an attack from sea-dwelling dinosaurs. The survivors must begin to try and escape the treacherous island by ship, but one of them is eventually washed ashore on a long-abandoned island. This island, it is revealed in the trailer, used to be a top-secret research center for Jurassic Park as well. It’s not all dinosaurs in the trailer, however, as the island appears to be hiding some even darker secrets.

Who’s Who in the Jurassic World Rebirth Cast?

As for the new series cast members, it is led by Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett, the operations specialist, and Mahershala Ali. Rupert Friend is Martin Krebs, a rep with pharmaceutical company Corto, but his motivations are not clear. Jonathan Bailey stars as the paleontologist Henry Loomis, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Reuben Delgado, the head of the shipwrecked family. Luna Blaise, David Iacano, and Audrina Miranda play Reuben’s children, with Bechir Sylvain as one of Zora’s teammates. Ed Skrein and Philippine Velge round out the cast in as yet unknown roles.

A trailer was released back in February that showed off a lot of the material from the film. However, the new and final trailer does hit on some of the more visual set pieces of the film. It begins in a laboratory where a worker is wearing a hazmat suit to deal with a dinosaur carcass. He is suddenly cornered by a hungry T Rex and screams for help as the trailer cuts to a title card for the film. The trailer sets the stage with a statement about how history repeats itself, but in different ways. If the trailer is any indication, the film is expected to be jam-packed with action, suspense, and, of course, dino kills.

Viewers are also treated to one of the film’s potential big set pieces, which is an attempted heist of a pterosaur egg. It’s said in the trailer that it’s Quetzalcoatlus northropi, “the fastest flying creature to ever live. It’s a flying carnivore the size of an F-16.” The trailer also revisits the more traditional dinosaur threat of the franchise in the form of the ubiquitous raptors. It then sets up a whole new water-based threat in the form of the mosasaur, which is quite terrifying in the limited footage. According to the dialogue shared in the trailer, the island that the group of survivors has found themselves on was used in Jurassic Park to house “the worst of the worst.”

Jurassic World Rebirth is being positioned as the new reboot or reset for the Jurassic Park film series. However, it also makes a point of bringing in elements that have become synonymous with the franchise. A return to the original Jurassic Park research island and the promise of new threats to keep the viewers guessing.

Jurassic World Rebirth will be in theaters nationwide on July 2, 2025, over the holiday weekend.
