Nine teenagers have been arrested in connection with the June 24 shooting death of 16-year-old Trey Dean Wright of Johnsonville, South Carolina, over what officials say was “a girl.” Florence County authorities say the killing was, in part, caught on video by one of the defendants.

Florence County Sheriff’s Office deputies found Wright’s body on First Neck Road on June 24. He had been shot multiple times. The rural road where Wright was found is about 45 miles west of Myrtle Beach. On June 25, Florence County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested 19-year-old Devan Scott Raper of Conway, South Carolina, alleging he shot Wright after the two were involved in an argument.

Raper is accused of shooting Wright multiple times after an argument between the two escalated. Florence County sheriff’s deputies now say Raper did not act alone and have announced a series of arrests weeks after the killing. Police say other teens helped to bring Wright to a spot where Raper was waiting for him, and Raper was armed and had previously threatened Wright.

Wright’s mother, Ashley Lindsey, says she is not able to grieve properly. “All this court hearing and bond court and stuff is driving me crazy. I don’t even have time to sit down and think half the time, on top of losing my precious baby,” she told Fox News Digital.

Wright’s girlfriend, 17-year-old Gianna Kistenmacher of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, was among those arrested. Kistenmacher was charged with accessory before the fact and allegedly brought Raper to the scene, knowing that he was armed and that an altercation was likely.

Authorities are charging five teens as adults under South Carolina state law. Florence County Major Michael Nunn told WBTW-TV there was evidence that several suspects conspired in the slaying. “They were complicit in bringing the armed codefendant, Raper, to the incident location and knowing that there would be a confrontation,” Nunn told reporters.

“They knew that Raper had presented a firearm to the victim and made threats to shoot him, according to the arrest warrants,” he added. South Carolina state law allows for teens to be charged as adults, Nunn confirmed. Five of the nine suspects have been charged as adults. “The hand of one being the hand of all is part of South Carolina law as well, so that’s the basis of the charge for each of those individuals,” Nunn said.

Three teens from the Myrtle Beach area were later charged with murder in connection with the case, in addition to Raper. They were identified as 18-year-olds Hunter Kendall and Corrine Belviso and 17-year-old Sydney Kearns. Prosecutors say the roles the three suspects played in the crime merited murder charges.

Sheriff T.J. Joye told local reporters the motive in the case has been identified as “being over a female.” “They had issues with each other, and it was over a female,” he said. “The sad thing is, you’ve got a 16-year-old who lost his life. You’ve got a 19-year-old who is going to be in jail the rest of his life. Over what?”

The latest court filings show Raper is facing charges of murder and weapon possession during a violent crime. He has been denied bail and is being held without bond. Kendall is being held without bond on a murder charge. Belviso and Kearns both posted $20,000 surety bonds last week. The four were each released pending trial.

Florence County Sheriff’s Office officials have not released further information on the case, citing the ongoing investigation, and local prosecutors declined to comment on the case to Fox News Digital. For Wright’s mother, though, the events are still fresh.
